Master Bedroom Remodel!

Well, well, well.

Joey and I have taken on another remodel in our house and it is in full swing.  Our house is painted all one boring builders-grade white and we have been trying to cozy it up now that our warranty is expired.  It has been fun envisioning what we want to do to transform our house into our home!

Our first project was our little powder room downstairs because everyone who visits always uses that bathroom.  It was nice to spruce it up for guests.  It turned out really nice and we are really happy with it!  That first little change bit me with the DIY remodel bug and all of a sudden I was seeing so! many! possibilities! with our house.  We decided that next up should be our bedroom.  It's one of the rooms in the house we use the most and I wanted to turn it into our sanctuary.

So what have we done so far?  It feels like a whole lot of nothing.  We have done tons, but without major change, it just feels like you're just treading water and in the same dang position for a long time.  We painted the trim, which made such a HUGE difference itself.  It's amazing how crisp and clean a room can look with some extra-white paint on the trim.  That took at least 3 weeks between taping it off and actually finding the time to do it in between weddings, birthday parties and of course, work.

Last night, we were all set to prime the walls...until we realized we had to tape everything off and lay drop cloths down.  We invested in a paint sprayer (since we have a whole freaking house to paint) and quickly realized that we couldn't do anything until all of the protectables were protected.  So we got that ready because that only takes five minutes right? HAAAAA, NO.  Three hours later it was a wrap (literally) and we went to bed.  Prep work, I hate you.  Here are some pictures of the room after all of that was done:

It pretty much looks like the inside of an old-school milk carton.  (Also?  That tray ceiling is it's own monster, but that's a whole different post.)

So tonight we finally got down to priming!  Here's Joey in his glory with his new tools:

Double-fisting the painting supplies like a champ!  Obviously I watch and take pictures.

The primer has already made a huge improvement in the room and it definitely looks like it's ready for paint now!  Our goal is to have our room back by this weekend, because clothes in 4 different spots in the house along with a completely relocated bathroom makes for a very frazzled wife and I can't handle that crap before coffee in the morning while trying to get ready for work.

Getting there (I hope)!  More later this week :)

V-Day Recap and Many Leather-bound Books

Happy Monday!

This weekend was a really nice one, filled with things to do for Valentine's Day and a mini home project that Joey and I tackled.  We didn't have any Valentine's Day plans at first, but when we both got home from work, we were starving and didn't want to cook.  Hubs suggested heading to Aubree's Pizza for dinner, since it just opened right down the street from us.  I had never been there before, so we tried it out and it was delicious.  We will definitely be going back, and that can be dangerous considering it's right down the street!

He also surprised me with a bouquet of beautiful lavender roses!  They are definitely a contender for my favorite flower now and they are making me crave springtime even more. We didn't realize it until we were eating dinner, but last year we did the exact same thing for Valentine's Day.  We ordered pizza in and watched the new Season 2 of House of Cards on Netflix.  Apparently, we like our V Day's laid back and casual.  We will probably be keeping this tradition up!  Unfortunately, Season 3 of HOC doesn't come out for another 11 days, but we were content with watching random shows on tv.

On Sunday we decided to put together the bookcase that his family got us for Christmas.  It's from Target, and we love it!  It was easy to put together with 2 people and only took us about an hour and fifteen minutes.  So excited to have it up, now I just have to fill it!  Isn't it a beaut?

Can't wait to get some cute bookends for this bad boy.  I may end up purchasing another one, too because I like it so much and I think I will need it for all of the books we have.

Have a great start to the week!

High Five for Friday!

This week seems like it completely got away from me.  So much to do, so little time...so much sleep still needed!  Let's recap:

1. Yesterday was mine and Joey's 5th wedding anniversary!  He surprised me with a beautiful homemade dinner of stuffed shells!  He also got me a bouquet of beautiful roses and a bottle of wine.  He's the greatest :)

2. I am loooooving the temperatures outside.  I got to wear my J. Crew sweater and it's deliciously soft.  If it would stay in the upper sixties until next summer, I would not complain.  We can just skip all of the winter stuff, mmkay weatherjerks?

3. I finally got around to watching Dead Poet's Society for the first time this week.  It was good, but super long and drawn out.  Of course, I loved Robin Williams' character, but the other characters needed more development.  It was a good watch, though.

4. Does anyone else miss House of Cards?  I sure do.  I need me some Frank Underwood back in my life.  I wish it was February!  (Kind of.  Only for HOC.)

5. I have started decorating for fall!  I put little things like pumpkins and scarecrows on my fireplace mantel and added some of those fake flickering candles.  I need to bust out my Scentsy and get my Pumpkin Roll wax melting to make the house smell amazing.  Can't wait to add in some Halloween decorations soon, too!

Happy Friday, friends!  Link up with Lauren below!

Creating an Oasis

Ever since we moved into the new house, I have become a bit obsessed with decorating.  With so much more space in this house, we have a lot of new areas to fill with color and comfort.  I am excited about this, because since the house is a blank slate, I can start from the ground up with wall colors, furniture and texture.  Sure, I have done little projects, like buying wall hangings and cute little end tables and knickknacks, but we haven't jumped into painting just yet.  More space = a lot more walls to paint!

The obsession with decorating has also turned into an obsession with home decorating blogs and Pinterest.  Oh, Pinterest.  Have you ever searched "master bedrooms" or "home decor" on Pinterest?  It's pretty much a never-ending onslaught of gorgeous rooms that DO NOT look like anything I have goin' on up in here right now.

I have really wanted to start with the master bedroom, because that is the one room that I so look forward to relaxing in every night.  I want it to be cozy and lovely and soft and fluffy!  (When did all of the accent pillows become a thing?  Regardless, I want all of them.)  I want texture and pattern and statement pieces...I just need to get my brain to put together a cohesive look.  I have stumbled across quite a few pictures that give me some great inspiration.

Take this one for example:

I adore the color scheme, and the subtlety of it all.  There's a large print, but it's monochromatic, so it's not too loud.  The fluffy ottoman's at the foot of the bed add lovely texture and I just adore that chandelier.  It's so feminine and soft, but keeping the neutral color palette makes it perfect for a couple.  Not to mention, I would love to have a headboard like that in my bedroom!

And then there's this room:

Totally different!  Although I love neutrals, I picked this room because of the wall color.  I wouldn't necessarily pick this exact color, but I like that it definitely adds interest without making the room closed in.  I like the eclectic mix in here.  Nothing seems too match-matchy, which I have been liking lately.  That end table?  Adorable.

And the big thing I have been thinking about doing in the master?  Something like this:

That gorgeous, painted tray ceiling.  YOU GUYS.  I am dying to do something like this.  Add in a fabulous chandelier and some fluffy pillows and I am in Heaven

I can't wait to get started on the master bedroom project!  Until then, I guess I will just keep adding all of these lovely rooms to my Pinterest boards ;)

Weekly Happies.

So I know everyone does the Five for Friday thing, so in my neck of the woods I am going to start listing my Weekly Happies...all the things this week that brought beauty, love and happiness to my soul.  And I will probably go past 5 :)

1.) My husband, Joey.  He is seriously the greatest thing to ever happen to me.  He deserves to have the first place on this list.  I am the luckiest girl to have a man that is my best friend.  The gratitude and love I feel towards him is immeasurable.

2.) 66* weather!  Holy cow, guys, does that feel good to have.  It hasn't stuck around but those fleeting days where it does peek gives me hope that May will bring a sunshine and warm filled month!  (And I would like to see some green outside, yes? ENOUGH with the brown!)

3.)  My powder room.  I did a little sprucing of it the past few weeks to add some personality.  I found the CUTEST little stand at Home Goods which fit perfectly and then I added a lantern, a lotus flower tealight, a little rock that says 'Relax' and some orchids.  I don't know why, but that little corner in my house makes me so happy.  I will put pictures up one day!

4.) Our elliptical.  I have been using that thing every night before I shower and go to bed and it has made sleep SO much better for me.

5.) Spartan Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.  This stuff is the BEST.  No other brand tops Spartan on this one in my book.  My parents had a gallon and I had to go over and inhale some.

6.) My new flats.  This goes along with #2.  I bought the cutest little lace flats that are the most comfortable things to boot.  It just has to stop raining so I can wear them more.

7.) Walking the dogs.  Joey and I love to do this in our sub.  It's so peaceful and it's awesome when we see some deer!

Well, those are my Happies of the week...It's Easter weekend so we will be all over the place, but it should be a good time.  Let's have some warm weather to celebrate, please!
